A 5 month Sabbatical

I started to work part time without stopping my very full retired life and it finally just got to be too much. So, I finished my duties as programs chair for Friendship Quilters and didn't take on any new ones.  Our wonderful local quilt shop, The Crazy 9 Patch closed a couple of months ago so my tenure as a quilting teacher ended naturally at that venue.  I am teaching my last class which ends in January at Poway Sewing and that will free up a little more time.  I have a break from subbing until January 1 when I will work 2 to 3 days a week until school ends in June.  Because of all the busyness, I stopped blogging for awhile. I didn't have much to show anyway as I hadn't been quilting all that much.

I do want to share "Falling Leaves"  which is Bonnie Hunter's Celtic Solstice Mystery Quilt from 2 years ago.  Just got it back from the binder's and I love it!

This quilt will grace the guest room bed during the fall.  Since the quilt shop closed a few sit and sews have cropped up and I am happily quilting with the girls again.  Life is good!

Exploring Color with Selvedge

I have been cutting off the selvedges of my fabric for awhile.  I have a couple of things I would like to make with them and this is the start of one of them.  The sample for the Exploring Color Class I will be teaching in February is a notebook with a Dresden plate flower on the front and the petals are the color wheel.  Sew, since this will be a quilting journal, I thought it would be fun to use the strips for it.  I then wrote sewing/quilting themed sayings on the sides of the manufacturing data.  Seriously-is that not cute? Ha!  I will have to make a solid cover as well so potential students won't be turned away because they didn't save 50 yards of B&W selvedges.

I also sewed 30 more block number 1 for the Bonnie hunter quilt.  I have decided to do half of the assignment which should give me enough for a nice fall table topper or wall hanging. 3"inch squares are killing me-there is no room for error and I have noticed that I will lose a few points on clue #1.
I forgot to share what I got at the Back Country Quilters Christmas part White Elephant exchange-this baby was traded 2x before I got to take it home.  A very nice White Elephant I must say.

Wonky Stars

I have been working on a block for the 2014 opportunity quilt so I can be done with my part until all the blocks come back in and I have to assemble the top.  Today, however, I wanted to finish the wonky star blocks for Julie of Quiltdivajulie.blogspot.  I went to Bonnie Hunter's blog and she had a tutorial.  The colors are right and they are stars so hopefully she will like them.
6 1/2 inches

4 together would be a finished 12" square-I like the secondary pattern-this may be something i will do later for a quilt. These are supposed to be semi scrappy so I didn't match opposing points.

So, I am getting some things off my plate-Yes!!  I ended up making a 12 1/2  inch square as well with no blue in the background squares-put it in the mailer without taking a picture.  Now she has a choice.
