Enchanted Autumn

I have loved this quilt since I saw it hanging in a quilt shop south of Seattle 3 years ago.  I suggested it for our town's Quilting Club's (we are not a guild-nor do they want to be) Opportunity Quilt.  I organized the making of it but many ladies took home blocks that were turned and glued down so all they had to do was whipstitch around them.  I then sewed them all together when they came back to me.  Susie Johnson quilted it and Marilyn Hersey bound it.  Truly a group effort.  I think it turned out beautifully and it is hanging in the Crazy 9 Patch for the Quilt Run.  It felt good to hand it over to the ladies who will take care of ticket sales.

Grape Jelly, 2014 opportunity quilt and Aiming for Accuracy

I haven't canned anything in 20 years  but I just felt the urge to use the beautiful ripe grapes on the vines that give our chain link fence, privacy.  Usually, I pretend not to notice them rotting on the vines and make myself feel better by telling myself that the birds are benefiting by me leaving the fruit alone.

4 different varieties-the only one I know is the Concord.  the small red ones are seedless and wonderful.

I finished putting the borders on the Back Country Quilters opportunity quilt for next year-now it goes to the quilter!  I love this quilt.  I have the pattern and a lot of the templates so I hope to start on it when I move to Medford .  It is called Enchanted Autumn by Vera Mosquera.

Then today I got one section of Aiming for Accuracy done so I am only behind 1 week.

 The 5 nine-patches go on the very bottom where the piles of fabric are.

I really don't like the pink in the square in the bottom left corner or in the large windmill square near the top nor do I like the bright turquoise in the bottom large square but I can live with the blue-can't live with the pink-have to change it out before I put the sections together. Drat!

A Well Spent Weekend

I really want to get Sloanie's quilt finished today.  I finished the top on Saturday. I added a brown flange and mitered the corners (which I don't usually do) and I like it.  Need to finish Home Sweet Home so I can have my design wall back.  Very hard to take pictures laying the quilts on beds.

On Sunday I finished prepping the last applique block for the opportunity quilt.  Judy volunteered to stitch it so I wanted to get it to her.  It took all afternoon but as I turned under each piece, I removed the template from the back and ironed it on to another piece of material.  So, I have this whole block ready to be prepped for my own quilt when I have time to do it.  I was able to do that with several blocks from this quilt so I have a headstart on my own Enchanted Autumn.

I changed one fabric from our original selection.  The sunflower originally was going to be the folded gold fabric but it would have been lost.  I had the gold/burnt orange batik in my stash and I think it adds life to the block.

P.S.  The 9-3 workshop on Saturday was really very good.  They did get me to buy 3 things but they were 20% off and I think will be very helpful.  Two rulers to help with mitered corners and a foot that will help with echo quilting.  I also learned how to sew beads onto fabric with my machine.  I learned a few other things but would have to read my notes to remember:)

Almost a Quilt!

I needed to go to the Crazy 9 Patch yesterday to get some green for Sloanie's quilt.  A block for our 2014 opportunity quilt was turned in and given to me (I am coordinating the making of it) and instead of coming home and cutting out the green, I put together the middle of the quilt-It is going to be beautiful!

The panels are straight-it is just laying on a bed as my design wall is 3 layers deep:(.  I will embroider "Enchanted Autumn" under the house-don't think I will add the date there.

Then I found "24 Hours" on Netflix and watched 7 episodes while I almost finished sewing Sloanie's top together.  I had never watched the show and -except for the fact that it shows the darkest side of humanity-it kept me on the edge of my seat.

Today i am off with a friend to a $10.00 "What's New in sewing and quilting today" class that include's lunch at Poway sewing.  I wonder what they will try to sell us:)
