Road Trip

What a great day.  Yesterday I took a road trip with friends, Debbie, Martha and Carol to Road to California.  We left at 7:30 and stopped in Temecula for breakfast at the Swing Inn  which was packed.  After a hearty breakfast, we headed to Road.  It was packed!  The first 2 aisles were so crowded we couldn't really see much but as we wound our way through it got better.  Some beautiful quilts but the trend to load them with thread and crystals is not to my liking.

My favorite kind of quilt-traditional pattern with an entirely new interpretation-color and design-no crystals-no over the top quilting-I LOVE THIS.  I give it best of show.

This was a mug rug in the Misty Fuse booth-I just liked it.

This year there was an outer tent with vendors-hard to find at best.

My lighting wasn't good-but this was a really cute quilt

All in all a good show-I bought some fibers, batiks, and Misty Fuse

My poor dog was beside herself by the time I got home-she never gets left for 12 hours

I felt so bad I let her sleep with me and we wrestled in bed this morning before I got up at 5am.

Going to finish prep on Pies and Tarts today so i can get rid of the table in the living room.

Tedi's 16 Patch Ready for the Longarm

Up at 2am again.  Lots of Netflix and reading going on:)  I finished the top of Tedi's quilt, got the back ready and used a leftover piece for the lable.  Binding is cut-feels good.  My friends, one from Lancaster and one from El Cajon will spend a day with me at Quilter's Paradise renting the longarm.  Jan has a queen to quilt as well.  We need a good visit! if we don't finish both on Monday, I will have them help me load mine and i will come back Tuesday and finish.

58x74-large enough that I won't add borders

Backing is a white on white with a paisley design-didn't have a large batik piece but I think the W on W will be fine-going with a medium thread on both sides so the quilting will show

Need one more border on these placemats and have 2 borders to put on the other 2-there were just enough end pieces to make four mats all a little different.

I also got 3 EPP pies prepped and 12 basket handles prepped with applique templates to finish a mini quilt for a class in 2 weeks.  Not at all tired-hope I can sleep tonight-but not before Downton Abbey!

Quilting-heart's desire

My husband says "quilting is done by chubby old ladies, and I don't see you as an old lady". Well, thank-you I think. Although his comment is totally unfounded, he holds to his perspective and, although I have shown him numerous "young" quilters, his mind is made up. I am finished trying to convince him otherwise-I will just continue to enjoy my old, new found passion.

I have always loved to sew. I made many of Greg's shirts in the 70's, every family member an Emily Barnes "Quilt in a Day" log cabin quilt-countless pillows-and a doorway heat blocker. I had just finished taking another quilting class when I started back to school for my degree and a working with paycheck life took over. I had English papers in my lap to replace the quilt frame. I retire in 3 months to the day. My old passion is resurfacing-now to get my Greg to understand my need for a pretty expensive sewing machine-a Bernina 730 is my heart's desire but God will have to make a way. Retail 6,000.00 dollars. My budget is closer to 2,500.00. I have never bought a sewing machine (except for the 10.00 Brother found at a garage sale). I am using the portable Singer my mom bought me in 1962 and it runs fine. However, I hope to be sewing for the next 15 years so I would like a machine to see me through and allow me to do art quilts and embroidery. Here's hoping and praying and thanking Jesus ahead of time.
